An incredible poem as unafraid of devotion (“O river of all giving / polish this stone I am”) as it is impatient of sanctimonious bullshit (“the guano of cathedral spires”), a poem of fury and contemplation and ageing and rebirth, a multivocal stream of invective and reaction and games of nought and crosses. A poem about language and languages, a poem about voices and personas as masks, a poem about motherhood as a wild state of being, about the impermanence of the self (“as many ages / as many sexes / as a waterfall”), a poem with fire in its “iglu” heart, a poem with the wisdom to tell you to “burn down your houses / if they are not lived in & danced in for love.”
Cristina Viti is a poet and translator working mostly with English, Italian and French. Over the years she has supported and translated the work of several writers and poets and taken part in a number of international events.
